FF12 / XII - Gambits
The Gambit system in Final Fantasy XII is a new system for this game where it allows you to customise your characters so that you can make them behave and do certain actions in battle at certin times under certain circumstances, all of which you can control. It isn't necessary for you to use the gambits system, allthough it would be alot easier for you to use it.
Gambits
Each character has a number of gambit slots which can be changed as desired. Each gambit slot has a target, with or without a condition attached, and an action.
Examples of a target are an ally or a foe.
A condition for the target can include Flying (meaning a target that is slying), status=slow (a target which has had slow casted on it) and HP < 40% (Meaning a target which has less that 40% of their total HP left.
Lastly the action which determines what the character will do if the condition is met on the target. Examples are Raise, Attack, Cure and Antidote.
The gambit system works by the character starts at the top of their gambit list and tries to perform the first one, but if the conditions aren't met, then they move onto the next one and keep going until they get to one where the conditions ARE met and then the character performs that action on the target. When an action is performed, the character begins from the top of the gambit list again.
Some examples of gambits are as follows:
